Green & orange oriental wrap dress

I saw this dress while looking through TopShop’s website recently:

I love it, but a) the bastards don’t make it in my size (what the hell, every other dress but not this one?? argh.), and b) I could make that!

So I did.

First I drafted my pattern pieces and made a muslin. I got some gorgeous drapey matte, silky dotted fabric from Walthamstow market for £1 a meter and some matching goldenrod yellowy-orangey fabric for accents at a different shop in the market for 75p a meter. It took me quite a while to get the fit looking exactly right, but I got the sleeves exactly the way I wanted them with a slit at the elbow, and two covered buttons for the outside closure (there are two hook & eyes for the inside closure). I finally got through all the handsewing hems today, so it’s officially finished! yay!
