Three more vampire tops

//

Believe it or not, I didn’t actually set out to post this on the same day that shooting finally (finally!!) begins on season 3 of Interview with the Vampire, but it just turned out to be a happy accident!

I sewed these at around the same time as the Dead Inside tank, but I separated that one out since I had a bit more to say. These three are all repeats of patterns I’ve happily sewn before though, so I’m grouping them together!

The doodle splatter tank

As I said earlier, I really need sleeveless tops for summer! So for this one I used Jalie 3245 again – View C and also shorted 6cm in the body and used 4cm wide bands, just like I did for The Kiss tank. And this time around, I’d remembered this was a directional print! 🙃

The fabric is really quite special though! I designed it myself, using doodles of the Interview with the Vampire main characters (Lestat, Louis, Armand and Claudia) drawn by the user “tennessee” (@ihearttoxicyuri) with their permission before they left social media. I added blood splatters to make it a bit more interesting, and used Photoshop to make it a visually interesting repeating print (which is harder than it sounds!).

I got 1m printed onto Maake’s Eco-Jersey base for £15 while it was on sale (normally £17.50/m). I’m SUPER happy with this base fabric. It’s by far the nicest base fabric I’ve tried – it’s fairly lightweight with good stretch, no curling edges and it’s SO SOFT! Like “vintage teeshirt” feel. I’m totally using this again…

It wasn’t until after I’d finished sewing and it was hanging on my sewing room clothes line that I realised that I accidentally ended up with Ghoststat overlooking Loumand pfffffff (if you watched IWTV S2 this sentence is hilarious).

The Brat prince tank

Then I sewed another Jalie 3245 using 1m neon green activewear fabric I bought at Extreme Textil on our ill-fated Berlin trip in Sept 2023. This is a really nice, lightweight wicking activewear jersey with a smooth face and a lightly gridded back – utterly perfect for workout tops. My notes say it was “P-wool” in colourway “Gecko Green” and I paid €10.40 for the metre. It doesn’t appear to be on their website but they stock WAY more in their shops so that doesn’t surprise me.

I mostly made this so I could add a black flock VL logo to the front, and the new The Beautiful Unwell motif to the back (which was only seen on the S3 press pack box sent out recently).

When I am finally well enough to exercise again, this will be very handy (as none of my previous activewear fits) but until then it’s just a fun summer top, and in the lime green reminiscent of the S3 teaser trailer.

The blurple Of Course tee

Finally, I used the 1m of “blurple” modal jersey I’d bought from Like Sew Amazing before they’d closed. It had been in my stash a while but I’m not sure why – it’s SUPER soft and drapey with great stretch and recovery. Honestly, if the shop was still going I’d have immediately bought more after sewing this up!

I used the FibreMood “Gina” tee pattern again because I really like its casual rolled sleeves and I wear my Celestial and Cream previous tees a lot.

But really, I sewed this so I could iron on my final (for a little while!) motif that I’d vectorised from the leaked IWTV S3 press pack. I used a combo of plain white and some cherry-red glitter HTV, with a little white VL logo on the back neck for minimal branding.

Because this modal jersey was so much drapier than the previous cotton jerseys I’d used for this pattern, I needed to tack the sleeve rolls down in four places instead of two.

I’ve also got one more vampire top planned that I’ve already cut the vinyl for, I just need to sew the tank now!

Also, I keep forgetting to say, but if any other fans have access to a vinyl cutting machine and want the vecctor files, just leave a comment and I’ll be happy to send over the .svg files!

I love these so much. I’ve never seen any Interview properties, but I’m a Buffy superfan so…cousins?? Regardless, I can appreciate the vibe! And what a vibe. Also this cut of tank top/vest as yall call it, is the perfect cut. It’s the shape all sleeveless tops should be, in my mind. It’s so helpful to see the process photos and how it turns out! Do you get a big ol’ nap after all this? Treats?

So happy to see the sewing mojo is back!! And along with it, the trademark creativity….just employed in a slightly different direction. And I might have to pull my vinyl cutter off of the bottom shelf after getting motivated by some of your ideas.
