Wild cat Duathlon Shorts

//

Now that the LDN medication is actually giving me some energy (see this post if you missed my recent health update), I can finally start rebuilding my body, regaining my fitness, and losing the huge amount of weight I’d put on while being stuck in bed.

But I have zero activewear shorts or leggings that still fit me. Zero. Since the medication started making me feel a little better in June-July-ish, I started off doing a strict “10min only” of stretching every day, which I’ve gradually now increased to about 30min daily, plus the odd walk and e-biking (and some rest days too, because this is not my first rodeo).

I thought I’d make myself at least one pair of Duathlon Shorts that fit, and plan for some Steeplechase Leggings for closer to Fall that I can wear out for longer e-bike rides.

So I printed off a new copy of the Duathlon Shorts pattern, in Size L through the thighs and hips, tapering up to XL at the waist.

I still have an extensive Lycra Scraps drawer, so I fished around in there and saw I had enough of the large scale cat eyes & lilies lycra for the front and back (leftover from my mom’s Duathlon Shorts!), and enough leopard print for the side panels (leftover from the leggings I made a Pilates teacher friend back in 2019?).

Even though they don’t technically “match”, I really liked the way these two fabrics coordinated together!

There’s not much to say about the construction of these, as they’re really straightforward and tbh I don’t even look at the instructions anymore. They’re super quick to sew, and I can wear them for stretching or cycling when the weather’s warm, or even indoor walks on the treadmill when it’s wet outside.

Perfect for a quick, new piece of activewear!

(This was my very first, short ride, using a friend’s borrowed e-bike since the kit I ordered in July has now been pushed back to the end of November!)

I’ve been busy doing lots of sewing and getting outside over the past few months, but neglecting blogging about it here. Thankfully I take notes as I sew, so I’ve got a glut of blog posts coming up…

    It is sooooo wonderful seeing you outside and active even if it is nowhere near the level past you is used to. I know being active is such a big part of your life and identity so it’s nice to see that you’re making some progress in re-activating that part of you. It’s such a relief to see that your body is responding to the LDN. And I love the fabric combination. It looks very much like a planned choice and not just a stash busting strategy!!
