London Fashion Week report

As explained a few days ago, I was very lucky to be invited to attend a catwalk show at London Fashion Week on Saturday morning. After fretting over what to wear, I settled on this ensemble, which was entirely Fehr Trade, just in case someone asked (they didn’t. Awww.).

But, as I soon found out once the models hit the catwalk, apparently I was right to decide on a cowl top!

Overall, I really enjoyed the show, for Paul Costelloe’s SS/08 collection. I had a fabulous time checking out all the structural details as they went past. He had a couple dodgy fabric choices (one in particular screamed “grandma’s mumu”!) but I’ve got enough experience looking at the low-rent models and petroleum fabrics on pattern envelopes to see beyond that. I did love that nearly all of his dresses had pockets, many of which were in interesting seam details so I’m definitely taking some of that on board with my own designs…

There was one dress in particular that had a swooped cutaway on each side, which cleverly hid the pockets in the seam between the print of the top and central portion of the dress, and the black sides. My friend and I both commented on how flattering the shape would be on any figure, but for some strange reason I can’t find it in the slideshow on the LFW site! I’ve looked through all the photos about six times and I’m certain it was ommitted for whatever reason…

I’ve got the photo I took of it, but unfortunately being in the 3rd row meant I captured more heads than dress.

In any case, I can remember the cut and the pocket placement, so come spring or summer I may be creating my own homage to the mysterious vanishing dress…

UPDATE: ah-ha! I knew I didn’t imagine it!! Vogue have got a photo of it in their slideshow, it’s no. 41 of 49. Aren’t those scoops with the hidden pockets fantastic?
