A trio of teeshirts

My final summer sewing this year came in the form of three separate teeshirts, all in the basic colours (pink is a basic, right??). Please forgive me that I'm not modelling these - I've had several utterly awful weeks fighting multiple infections on top of the Long Covid I've been fighting for the past 11 months, and I didn't want to hold up posting about these! None of these teeshirts took more than an hour of sewing time nor cost more than a tenner, but I guarantee you they'll last years longer than anything bought at those prices!

My final summer sewing this year came in the form of three separate teeshirts, all in the basic colours (pink is a basic, right??). Please forgive me that I’m not modelling these – I’ve had several utterly awful weeks fighting multiple infections on top of the Long Covid I’ve been fighting for the past 11 months, and I didn’t want to hold up posting about these!

None of these teeshirts took more than an hour of sewing time nor cost more than a tenner, but I guarantee you they’ll last years longer than anything bought at those prices!

Black tee:

This one is the most creative of the three, though it doesn’t look like it! I took our Loose Fitting Top Block (size M) from our “Sew Your Own Activewear” book, and slashed & spread the Front and Back to create a “Swing Tee”.

I used black cotton jersey from New Craft House, bought on clearance months ago. It’s got very little stretch but is a generous 180cm wide, so it was a match made in heaven for this shirt. That being said, the sleeves are a little tight (likely due to the minimal fabric stretch) so next time I either need more fabric stretch or a full bicep adjustment.

The only change I’d make in future is I’d draw a line at the bust and only spread from there rather than the shoulder/neckline. Starting at the shoulder/neckline gives some extra volume in the upper chest that I don’t really like. But this is a small complaint and the shirt is very wearable (and breezy!) as it is.

Pink tee:

This shirt uses the Fibre Mood Erica pattern, Size L again. If you recall, this is the same pattern as the jade monsters teeshirt seen recently with my barrel-legged jeans.

For this one I used the “crocus” interlock cotton jersey from New Craft House. I paid £6/m but it’s on clearance now for £3.80/m(?!) which is outrageously cheap. It’s got only a little stretch and wrinkles a bit but is a nice hefty weight for a tee!

I added black glitter heat set vinyl to celebrate the new Rockstar Lestat Season 3 teaser and the “Long Face” song that’s taken up residence in my brain since the teaser dropped!

I might add more cities at a later date, but I didn’t have enough vinyl to do it this time around…

White tee:

And finally, what sort of wardrobe would be complete without a basic white tee? For this one I used the Fibre Mood Gina pattern, Size L again. This is the same pattern that I used for the constellation teeshirt, so it was handily already traced and ready to go.

For this one I used 1m of ivory teeshirt jersey on deep clearance discount from New Craft House for £6! And still had plenty leftover for scraps. This jersey doesn’t have a ton of stretch but this pattern has a very relaxed fit so I knew it’d be fine.

I really like that this pattern has dolman sleeves with a separate cuff piece that rolls up nicely and tacked in place with no exposed raw edges

Which is your favourite? Should I add some vinyl to the white and black ones too? Or keep them plain?

I’m off in Cornwall this week for some R&R, but when I’m back I’m itching to share a big project I’m taking on for Fall!

I’d keep the black and white plain – just makes them more versatile. They are lovely makes and will work for just about anything. So sorry that Long COVID has really kicked your butt. I hope for better feeling days (whatever that looks like for you) ahead for you.
