Diamonds and silver

What better way to celebrate the start of the Christmas party season than with a luxe new top that shimmers in the lights? I made Burda 8132c for the pre-launch of BurdaStyle.com, a new community-based sewing site that’s launching in December 2006. I’ve written up a TON of tips and tricks for the site, so I’ll amend this article with a link to those once it goes live.

Burda sponsored the cost of the pattern and this gorgeous silver silk dupioni (it’s really a lovely shade of silver in real life – it looks a bit purple in the photos above) that I chose from TotallyFabrics.co.uk, and the diamond inset is made of black duchess satin leftover from my 1930s evening gown I made last November.

The top was really quick and pretty straightforward and a great choice for a quick, luxurious look for Christmas drinks. The only real change I made was inserting the zipper upside-down since my bust measurement is bigger than my hips, which I always do in this sort of pattern.

And as a bit of an experiment, I made a quick video showing the “birth” of this top as I assembled the pieces! Have a look:
