From the most OTT extravagant coat to the most boring (but necessary!) trousers… You never know quite what you’re going to see here, right??
But I really, really needed more trousers, and ones that I could wear with a number of different tops. I only have 2(!!) pairs of trousers that still fit me (the brown linen Bobs and the Belleville Jeans, since the black linen Bobs disintegrated) so this was a necessary sew for my wardrobe. These really are truly boring, but one that I will wear over and over again (or at least until I’m well enough to fit back into the smaller pairs that are in storage).
I knew I’d need to make more trousers soon, so I scooped up 2.5m of ramie in “khaki” at Textile Express when they were having a rare 20% off sale. I don’t feel “khaki” really describes this colour well, though – they’re more of a grey/green or “muted moss” or “griege” or something? They look a bit brown in these photos but it really is more of a grey/green in real life.
For the pattern I used my TNT Closet Core Patterns Pietra, narrow leg trousers, with legs lengthened by 7.5cm and front crotch shortened, as usual. But I had to go up to a size 20(!), up from my original pre-Covid size 12, and this summer’s size 18 shorts. Size 20 is the largest in the original size range, and if Long Covid makes me gain any more weight I’ll have to buy the pattern all over again in the larger size range. 😭
By now I could sew these in my sleep, so there’s not much more to say that I haven’t already said. I’ve lost count of the number of these I’ve made these, between the long length and shorts but I much be approaching 15 by now?
Since the trousers were so boring I needed to throw in a quick knit top to cheer myself up!
So I made a quick Fibre Mood Erica again (which I used for the jade monsters shirt) using a remnant of the gorgeously vibrant “Watercolour flower” jersey from Fabrics Galore. It’s a brilliant quality jersey with the perfect heft, stretch and recovery.
The only thing of note for this teeshirt is that I initially wasnt sure which colour thread for the hems but pale pink seemed to blend best in the end. And I decided to use a hot pink glitter iron on emoji from my stash of extras instead of a label.
Despite being very quick makes, I know both will get a lot of wear, and for different reasons: the trousers because they go with everything, and the teeshirt because we all need a bit of cheer amoungst the doom and gloom right now…
