A blush pink Lara sweatshirt

I jumped all over the extremely cheap clearance blush Loopback jersey (French terry) and interlock jersey from New Craft House when I saw it marked down – £4.80/m and £3.60/m respectively! These are a beautiful pale peachy pink colour and are perfectly matching, so I knew they’d be perfect for sewing another comfy sweatshirt.

I opted for the FibreMood Lara sweatshirt pattern again, same as the black Lestat one I made last fall. This time I went down a size to L instead, tracing off another size from my pattern magazine. The design is meant to be oversized, and I love my black version, but for this I wanted it to be comfy without being overly baggy.

Winter workout wear – Dymar & Steeplechase

Despite having an incredibly full activewear drawer, there were a few items I was missing to bridge the gap between my current size (as I’m losing the huge amount of weight I gained while bedbound with Long Covid) and my pre-Covid activewear size. Namely, comfortable activewear I can ebike in over the winter and still look casual at my destination! Plus, due to the risk of catching illnesses inside, when I meet up with friends during the winter, we need to sit outside so the warm layers do double duty even when I’m not on the bike.

Two merino Dymar tops

I bought the FibreMood Sports issue as soon as it was published, and the Dymar top was one that instantly jumped out at me, despite being cropped. This is the same issue as the Denver sports bra that I made last year, if you recall. You can also buy any of the patterns individually from FibreMood or The Fold Line.

Three pyjamas and a top

As we approach the end of the year, I realise that there were a few things I made this year that I neglected to blog about – not because I didn’t like them or wear them loads, but because I either was too sick to sit up and write, or because I didn’t have much to say about them.

So before I start compiling my end of year post for the first of the new year, I wanted to clear the decks a bit and share some of the garments you’ve not seen yet…

Tartan pyjama bottoms

The Fiske pyjma set was the January 2025 Cashmerette Club members pattern, which I actually cut out in January 2025 while very sick with Long Covid.

A test Denver lips bra

I bought the new FibreMood “Sports” special issue and there’s quite a bit in it that I want to make, but I thought I’d start off with something simple that I don’t have to buy special fabric for. “Denver” isn’t really a sports bra – there’s zero support there – not even a lining! – just one layer of lycra. It’s called “cropped top” in the magazine and I’d agree with that.

I need an extremely basic sports bra for low impact stretching, walking, and e-biking, so my favourite supportive Jalie Coco pattern seemed like overkill here. I figured Denver would be something quick that’s better than just wearing a cotton Axis tank, and I could use up a bit more of my Lycra scraps drawer in the process.

A looming head Lara sweatshirt

I’ll be honest – I sewed this sweatshirt mostly as a vessel for a bit of heat transfer vinyl I cut out way too big back in the summer. I wasn’t really thinking of the measurements on a shirt when I cut it out, and was more thinking to just make it as big as the vinyl roll, forgetting that my roll was nearly 24 inches wide instead of A4! So I ended up with a Lestat head (same as on this grey shirt), but absolutely huge – way too big to put on the front of a teeshirt. But I didn’t want to throw it away either, so I figured it’d go nicely on the back instead.

I’ve been meaning to sew the FibreMood Lara sweatshirt for a while now. It’s from the fabulous FibreMood “Essentials” magazine that I’ve sewn so much from already! It’s an oversized sweatshirt with great sleeve seaming, and the option to either sew the fronts and backs as one piece each, or each with princess seaming and a kangaroo pocket. I chose to have the princess seams and kangaroo pocket in the front, but no seaming in the back (so that no seams would interfere with the big vinyl). I selected Size XL based on my bust measurement, but tbh it’s so oversized I could’ve easily gone down a size or two and still been fine.

Two black bamboo vest tops

Ok I didn’t lie when I said in the last post that those were my last vampire shirts for a while… because I already had the vinyl cut and weeded for these by that point, and these were always planned. I just needed to make the shirts for the vinyl to go onto!

Three more vampire tops

Believe it or not, I didn’t actually set out to post this on the same day that shooting finally (finally!!) begins on season 3 of Interview with the Vampire, but it just turned out to be a happy accident!

I sewed these at around the same time as the Dead Inside tank, but I separated that one out since I had a bit more to say. These three are all repeats of patterns I’ve happily sewn before though, so I’m grouping them together!

A white ribbed Dead Inside tank (& bonus Axis tank)

As I mentioned in my last post, I really needed a lot more sleeveless tops, as I only had one or two that still fit. I really loved the shape of the FibreMood Elza ever since I saw it in their magazine last spring, but I hadn’t quite gotten around to sewing it. I’d traced in size L then, though, so I had to re-trace it again in XL now – not a huge deal since it’s only four pattern pieces.

I had 1m of Ivory Ribbed Jersey in my stash that I apparently bought from Textile Express for £5 this time last year (it’s £3/m now?!). It’s soft and drapey with decent recovery and I like the uneven rib. But it was just sold as “multiple fibres” (polyester & viscose I’d guess?), it picks up lint like a magnet, and is definitely translucent. So it was a good fabric to test this pattern, especially as I’m not sure I’d like the narrow front tank style.

A waterproof camo Carly (Rae) Jacket

I actually sewed this jacket before the broderie anglaise dress, but I’m already wearing it a lot in the cooler summer evenings. It felt at the time like I’d been sewing this jacket for forever, but it surprised me to see that it had actually only been a month (7 April – 9 May). With Long Covid I really have zero concept of time anymore…

And this jacket was single handedly responsible for the return of my sewing mojo! I saw it promoted as part of a recent FibreMood magazine and I just had to buy it as a standalone pdf right away because I LOVED it!

A bright floral tee and extremely boring trousers

From the most OTT extravagant coat to the most boring (but necessary!) trousers… You never know quite what you’re going to see here, right??

But I really, really needed more trousers, and ones that I could wear with a number of different tops. I only have 2(!!) pairs of trousers that still fit me (the brown linen Bobs and the Belleville Jeans, since the black linen Bobs disintegrated) so this was a necessary sew for my wardrobe. These really are truly boring, but one that I will wear over and over again (or at least until I’m well enough to fit back into the smaller pairs that are in storage).
